Nivoloc

Description

Nivoloc (Levofloxacin) is a synthetic, broad-spectrum, third generation fluoroquinolone derivative antibacterial agent. Chemically levofloxacin is a chiral fluorinated carboxyquinolone.

Indication

Nivoloc (Levofloxacin) is indicated for the treatment of adult (>18 years of age) with mild, moderate and severe infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms.

                1.     Acute maxillary sinusitis.

                2.     Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.

                3.     Community acquired pneumonia.

                4.     Complicated urinary tract infection.

                5.     Uncomplicated skin & soft tissue infection.

                6.     Acute pyelonephritis caused by Escherichia coli.

Dosage & Administration

Acute maxillary sinusitis: 500mg once daily for 10-14 days.

Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 250-500mg daily 7-10 days.

Community acquired pneumonia: 500mg once or twice daily for 7-14 days.

Uncomplicated skin & soft tissue infection: 250mg daily or 500mg once or twice daily for 7-14 days.

Side Effect

Nivoloc (Levofloxacin) is generally well tolerated. However, a few side-effects can usually be seen. Side-effects include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence and rare occurrence of phototoxicity ( 0.1%). Side-effects that may be seen very rarely include tremors, depression, anxiety, confusion etc.

Precautions

The following measures should be taken during administration of Levofloxacin: while taking Levofloxacin adequate amount of water should be drunk to avoid concentration form of urine. Dose adjustment should exercise during Levofloxacin ingestion in presences of renal insufficient.

Contraindications

Nivoloc (Levofloxacin) is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, quinolone antimicrobial agents or any other components of the drug.

Antacids, Iron and Adsorbents-reduce absorption of Levofloxacin
