Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a beta-lactum antibiotic, a 3rd generation oral cephalosporin. It Is the prodrug of Cefpodoxime. It Is aclive against both Gram-positive and Graim-negative bacteria. It is taken up in the intestine and is hydrolyzed ID active metabolite Cefpodoxime. The volume of dlstrtbution Is 32.3 L & peak plasma levels of Cefpodoxime occur 2 to 3 hours after dosing. Serum protein binding of Cefpodoxime is 40% principally lo albumin. The main route of excretion is renal, 80% is excreted unchanged in the urine with an elimination half-life of approximately 2.4 hours.

Dosage & Administration
Ximocef suspension may be given without regard to food. The recommended doses, duration of treatment, applicable patient population ara as below:
Cefpodoxime Proxetil has very few side etrects. The side atrects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, chest pain, myalgia, dyspepsia, dizziness, vertigo, cough etc. In children, fungal slcin rash is more than adults.
Antacids: Concomitant administration of high doses of antacids (sodium bica nate and aluminium hydroxide) or H2 blockers reduce peak plasma level by 24% to 42% and the extent of abso on by 27% to 32% respectively. Probenecid: Ranaf excretion of cefpod ima was inhibiled by probenecid and resulted in an approximataly 31% increase in AUC. Nephrotoxic drugs: Clcsa monitoring of renal function is advised when Cefpodcxime Proxatil is administarad concomftanlly with compounds of known nephrotoxic potential.
