Lospre

Lospre 50mg Tablet  Each film coated tablet contains Losartan Potassium BP 50 mg.

Description

Lospre (Losartan Potassium), the first of a new class of antihypertensive, is an angiotensin
II ruceptor (type AT1) antagonist. Angiotensin II is a potent Vasoconstritor, the primary
vasoactive hormone of the renin-angiotensin system and an important component in the
pathophysiology of hypertention. Losartan and it's principal active metabolite block the
vasoconstriction and aldosterone secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues. Losartan is now regarded as the first-line therapy option for treating high blood pressure.

Lospre

Indication

Lospre (Losartan Potassium) is indicated for the treatment of all grades of hypertension and
congestive heart failure. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive
agents. It is an effective alternative for patients who have to discontinue an ACE inhibitor
because of persistent dry cough.

Lospre

Dosage & Administration

The usual starting dose of Loepre is 50 mg once daily, with 25 mg used in patients with
possible depletion of intravascular volume (e.g. patients treated with diuretics) and patients with
a history of hepatic impairment. Loepre can be administrated once or twice daily doses ranging from 25 to 100 mg. If the antihypertensive effect measured at trough using once daily dosing is inadequate, a twice daily regimen at the same total daily dose or an increase in dose may give a more satisfactory response. If blood pressure is not controlled by Lospe alone, a low dose of a diuretic may be added. No initial dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients with renal impairment, including patients on dialysiis; Lospre may be administered with or without food.

Lospre

Side Effect

Overall incidence of adverse effects of Lospre is comparable to placebo in clinical studies. The most common adverse events occurring with Lospre at a rate of 1% above placebo were upper respiratory injection (7.9% vs 6.9%), dizziness (3.5% vs 2.1%) and lag pain (1.0% vs 0.0%).

Lospre

Precautions

Lospre (Losartan Potassium) should be used with a caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drugs that act through rennin-angiotensin system. Spacial precaution should be takan when it is administrated to the patients with renal and hepatic impairment. Safety and effectiveness of
Lospre in paediatric patients have not been established.

Lospre

Contraindications

Lospre (Losartan Potassium) is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or any component of the drug.

Lospre

Drug Interaction
