Zinpro

Description

Zinc is an essential element of nutrition and traces are present in a wide range of foods. It is a constituent of many enzyme systems and is present in all tissues. Features of zinc deficiency include growth retardation and defects of rapidly dividing tissues such as the skin, the immune system, and the intestinal mucosa. Zinc deficiency can occur in individuals on inadequate diet, in malabsorption, with increased body loss due to trauma, burns and protein losing conditions and during intravenous feeding.

Indication

It is indicated for the following conditions:

Recurrent respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, loss of appetite, severe growth retardation, deformed bone formation, impaired immunological response, impaired spermatogenesis, acrodermatitis, defective and delayed wound healing, mental disturbances and many other complications.

Dosage & Administration

Below 10 kg Children: 22.5 mg of zinc (2.25 teaspoonful’s) in a day after food.

From 10 to 30 kg Children: 22.5  mg of zinc (2.25 teaspoonful’s) 1-3 times in a day after food.

Above 30 kg Children and Adults: 45 mg of zinc (4.5 teaspoonful’s) 1-3 times in a day after food or use as per physician’s suggestion.

Side Effect

In case of zinc, mild side effects such as gastric ulcer, pancreatitis, lethargy, fever, nausea, vomiting, respiratory distress and pulmonary fibrosis have been observed.

Precautions

Concurrent administration of Zinc salt with penicillamine might diminish the effect of Penicillamine. The absorption of Zinc, although poor, may be decreased by various compounds including some foods. Chelation may occur with tetracyclines.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to zinc.

Drug Interaction

Concurrent administration of zinc salts and penicillamine may diminish the effect of penicillamine. Zinc salts affect the GI absorption and serum levels of some fluoroquinolones and tetracycline by forming chemical complexes. Bran products (including brown bread) and some foods (e.g. protein, phytates, some minerals) may decrease zinc absorption.

Storage

Store in a cool place. The syrup should be protected from light.
